Since 2020, Mateo Tutoring has supported students across the San Francisco Bay Area, San Joaquin County, and beyond through one-on-one tutoring and college and career advising. We don’t assign tutors. We build relationships between the right people.

At the center of our work is the Mateo Method: an approach that begins with understanding the individual, who they are, what they love, and what they haven’t yet been given a chance to show. From there, every consultation, every pairing, and every plan is designed around that student and led directly by our founder Lariel Mateo.

Reading literacy support is led by Sue McMahon-Dyogi who has seen education from all angles. Her body of work confirms a single conviction: once a student can read, everything else becomes possible. We believe her.

College and career advising is led by Leo Libres, whose expertise is the entire reason this component of Mateo Tutoring exists. The same care that goes into matching your student with the right person goes into every conversation Leo has about what comes next.

We don’t believe a student’s potential is measured by their marks or defined by where they go next. We believe that every student deserves the time, the right person, and a plan that is rooted in their specific needs. When a student is met where they are, something shifts. Not just academically.

Students become the kind of person who believes they can figure things out. That belief is the foundation. Everything else follows.
